Spiritist March: Reflections and historical milestones of the doctrine in Brazil and around the world.

Março Espírita: Reflexões e marcos históricos da doutrina no Brasil e no mundo.

The month of March brings with it a series of important events in the history of Spiritism in Brazil and around the world. These are dates that not only record events from the past, but also help us to understand the evolution of the Doctrine, its philosophical foundations and the efforts of those who dedicated their lives to spreading Spiritist teachings.

Unlike traditional commemorative dates, events related to Spiritism are not about paying homage, but rather about reflection and learning. Each of these milestones represents a step along the path of the Doctrine, whether through the birth and death of great personalities, the founding of important institutions or the publication of works that have contributed to the spread of Spiritist knowledge.

In this article, we explore some of the main spiritist events in March, remembering names such as Allan Kardec, Gabriel Delanne, José Herculano Pires, Yvonne do Amaral Pereira, among others, who left a fundamental legacy for all those who seek to understand and live the spiritist teachings.

08/03/1938Sebastião Paraná de Sá, founder of the Spiritist Federation of the State of Paraná, dies.
09/03/1979Date of the death of José Herculano Pires, author of several books and translator of Kardec's works.
09/03/1984Yvonne do Amaral Pereira dies in Rio de Janeiro.
10/03/1986Francisco Klors Werneck, spiritist writer, dies in Rio de Janeiro.
11/03/1951One of the organizers of the First Congress of Spiritist Youth in Brazil, João Batista Chagas, dies in the city of Niterói (RJ).
13/03/1919Foundation of the Centro Espírita Friburguense, in Nova Friburgo (RJ).
14/03/1874English naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace became the first scientist to take a photograph of a materialized spirit.
16/03/1893Death of the pioneer of Spiritism in Brazil, Luiz Olimpio Telles Menezes. He founded the Family Group of Spiritism and the newspaper Eco d'Além Túmulo.
19/03/1819José María Fernandez Colavida, translator of Kardec's works into Spanish, is born. The Brazilian Spiritist Federation publishes A Barqueira do Júcar, one of his books.
19/03/1963Angelo Watson Campelo, Cairbar Schutel's replacement at O Clarim, dies.
21/03/1880Bittencourt Sampaio, Antonio Luiz Sayão, Frederico Junior, among others, founded the Fraternity Spiritist Group.
21/03/1945Death of Frederico Augusto da Silva, one of the founders of the Spiritist Federation of Rio Grande do Sul.
22/03/1882Allan Kardec's book Genesis was published in Portuguese for the first time.
23/03/1857Gabriel Delanne, the scientist of the Spiritist Codification, is born. The Brazilian Spiritist Federation publishes his books: The Soul is Immortal, Spiritism before Science, Soul Evolution, The Spiritist Phenomenon, Reincarnation.
23/03/1876Foundation of the Society of Spiritist Studies God, Christ and Charity, under the inspiration of Ishmael, Spiritual Guide of Brazil.
24/03/1881The newspaper União e Crença appeared, published in Areias (SP).
25/03/1856Allan Kardec learned through a mediumistic communication of the existence of the Spirit of Truth, the mainstay of the codification.
25/03/1939José Petitinga (José Florentino de Sena), founder of the Spiritist Union of Bahia, dies.
26/03/1964Antonio Lima dies. As well as translating Kardec's works, he wrote books, with FEB publishing A Caminho do Abismo, Estrada de Damasco, Senda de Espinhos, Vida de Jesus.
27/03/1896Alvião appears, a spiritist newspaper published in the city of Taubaté (SP).
28/03/1905Francisco Klors Werneck, one of the founders of the Spiritist League of Brazil, is born.
30/03/1969Death of Sebastian Lasneau. Blind poet, one of the creators of Spirit Week.
31/03/1869Allan Kardec, the codifier of the Spiritist Doctrine, dies in Paris of an aneurysm.
31/03/1870The Celtic-style funerary monument to receive Allan Kardec's remains is inaugurated in Paris at the Pére-Lachaise cemetery.
31/03/1897Foundation of the Bookshop of the Brazilian Spiritist Federation.
31/03/1903Spiritist writer Antonio Luiz Sayão dies. FEB publishes his work Elucidações Evangélicas.

Each of these events should not be seen as an isolated event in time, but as part of a continuous process of learning and evolution. Knowledge of the history of Spiritism allows followers to better understand its foundations and follow the development of the Doctrine over the years.

What's more, studying the deeds of those who came before us inspires us to keep going, deepening our studies, practicing charity and strengthening our faith. After all, Spiritism is not a static belief, but a path of constant learning and renewal.
